India: the realm of the Tiger

In northeastern India, along the mighty Brahmaputra River, lies a breathtaking wilderness of floodplains, endless elephant grass fields, and dense jungles: Kaziranga National Park. This is one of the last places on Earth where all of India’s iconic megafauna still coexist: the Indian elephant, the Indian rhinoceros, the wild water buffalo, and the mysterious king of the jungle, the Bengal tiger. But the park holds even more wonders. Monkeys and India’s only ape species, the hoolock gibbon, swing through the forest canopy, while colorful birds and fascinating reptiles surround us. With a bit of luck, we may also spot Ganges river dolphins in the vast, slow-moving waters of the Brahmaputra.

Join me on this extraordinary expedition and visit the realm of the Tiger.

Day 2-8

After breakfast the next morning, we immediately set off in our 4x4 vehicle to immerse ourselves in the wilderness of Kaziranga in search of the animals hidden deep within the jungle. During our jeep safari, we travel across vast elephant grass plains, marshlands, and dense forests, constantly scanning the landscape for rhinos, elephants, water buffalo, monkeys, colorful birds and reptiles, and the true king of the jungle, the tiger. Following the morning safari, we return to our lodge for lunch and a short rest before heading out once again in the afternoon. As the heat of the day slowly fades, the jungle comes alive once more, and our afternoon safari offers another opportunity to observe Kaziranga’s extraordinary wildlife.

During our stay, we will take part in a total of 10 jeep safaris (5 morning and 5 afternoon drives), exploring all four main regions of Kaziranga National Park: Burapahar, the Western, Central, and Eastern zones. Each area reveals a different face of the wilderness, ensuring that every day brings new landscapes and new wildlife encounters. Our expedition also includes a full day dedicated to the Hollongapar Gibbon Reserve, giving us the best possible chance to observe India’s only ape species in its natural habitat, the remarkable Hoolock Gibbon. Another day is devoted to the mighty Brahmaputra River, where we board a boat and drift along its slowmoving waters in search of the rare Ganges River Dolphins. With seven full days devoted to exploring this extraordinary wilderness, we maximize our chances of unforgettable encounters with India’s remarkable wildlife.

In this untamed Indian landscape, the power of nature can be felt at every moment. Rhinos graze among the towering elephant grass while herds of elephants move silently across the marshy meadows, accompanied by the sounds of the jungle surrounding us. Here, absolutely anything can happen. A rustle in the bushes, a sudden shadow moving in the distance… and in the very next moment, the Bengal tiger itself may emerge from the cover of the tall grass.
